CHARACTER INFORMATION
➤ CHARACTER NAME: Cael Malloy.
➤ SERIES: The Riches.
➤ CHARACTER AGE: 17.
➤ REFERENCE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_riches
➤ CANON POINT: After the Malloy family begins to live as the Rich family, but before everything starts to go to shit. Very early season 1.
➤ SEXUALITY: Cael acts straight, but he’s had some sexual experiences with guys. His family are travelers (gypsies) and are less governed by society’s rules and aren’t hung up about things like sexual preference or gender identity, except where it might draw attention to them and jeopardize the cons they pull. His brother Sam often wears girl’s clothes, which the family accepts as normal, asking him to dress differently only when it might get them caught. Similarly, Cael pursues relationships with guys that he meets, but tries to be conscious of when being obvious about it won’t work to his advantage.
➤ PERSONALITY: Cael is street smart. He’s been home schooled up until now, and he doesn’t see the value in traditional education. His family are “stealing” the lives of the Riches, a couple who died in a car accident, and as a result Cael and his siblings have been enrolled in Rosemere Preparatory School. He sees the kids in his classes at Rosemere obsessing over grades and what colleges they’re going to go to, and doesn’t get the point. He misses traveling, and is having a difficult time adjusting to school and living like “buffers,” which is how they refer to everyday folks who live on the grid.
Cael doesn’t generally trust quickly or easily as a result of living as a traveler. He’s always looking out for himself and his family, but he has a bad tendency to be a little reckless. When relationships are involved, and when he really cares about someone, he can have the tendency to be a little reckless in order not to lose that person. That stems from the traveler lifestyle, and the awareness that if you don’t hold on tight to someone, they’re going to leave, or you’re going to leave, and you’re going to lose them.
Cael is good at lock-picking, or “bumping”. He’s good at breaking into places, past security devices, and recognizes the difficulty of getting past different security systems. He can make fake ID’s and steal cars. He’s good with computers, good enough to do some minor hacking. The kids trade off who acts as the distraction when things get bad, but it’s almost always Cael who has to be the distraction because he’s the one who seems to get them caught, not that he’d necessarily agree that it’s his fault. He’s good at assuming a role and an identity, whether that identity is kid on vacation with his family who suffers from epilepsy or rich fuck enrolling in a college prep school. In the roles he assumes, he still comes off as rough around the edges.
He’s a bit of a jerk, but for the most part, that’s something he puts on to keep himself and his family safe. He acts toughest when he perceives that someone is a threat to his family, notably threatening a classmate with scissors when the boy looks at his very attractive mother. When it comes to his family, there isn’t much he wouldn’t do to protect them.
➤ POWERS: Cael has no “real” powers, but he’s good with a lock pick.
➤ SUITABILITY: It’s going to be difficult for Cael to adjust to life in the dome initially. He’s a traveler by nature, and even just staying in the same town for a few weeks has been a strain on him. Many nights have found him sleeping in the bottom of an empty swimming pool on the property, just so he can see the stars. However, given the size of the Dome, Cael will have the opportunity to roam and make connections with people who he won’t end up leaving when he travels, which is something that he struggles with, even though he likes living on the road. Cael, like any other teenage guy, thinks about sex a lot. He sometimes struggles to make the connections needed to start relationships, because he is moving so much, so being in the Dome will be beneficial in this regard. In canon, we don’t see him being sexual with his girlfriend, but he isn’t a virgin. Initially he may cling to the cover of being Cael Rich, but as he experiences different things in the game and needs that protection less, he may begin to approach people in less guarded ways.
